How to cut down on costs when moving to Florida

We always recommend our clients to hire a moving company. This is is the best way to cut down on costs when moving anywhere.

Be that Florida or New York, anywhere really. Especially if you can find reliable yet cheap movers. And that’s exactly where we come in. If you need to hire moving companies from New York to Florida, we’ll be able to find you the perfect movers for the job.

Declutter

Another great way to cut down on costs when moving is to declutter your belongings. The fewer items you need to relocate the cheaper the move will be. That’s why we recommend to all our clients to organize their belongings before moving day. The best way of doing this is by using the KonMari method.

The KonMari method is a method of decluttering belongings. The difference between this method, and other types of methods is in the way you approach decluttering. Instead of going room-by-room, you are going to declutter by groups of items (categories). We recommend that you actually book a time in your calendar for tidying up. Then, imagine your ideal lifestyle and start decluttering. Ask whether an item sparks joy, or not. Only leave those items that do spark joy. Start from clothes, then move on to books. papers, miscellaneous items, and finally sentimental items.

The same logic applies when if you need to declutter and organize your home for seniors. It’s an overall great method for helping you achieve well being, organization and save money, as well.

Free packing supplies

Another awesome way to cut costs, especially if you are moving by yourself is to get free packing supplies. How does one go about getting free packing supplies, we hear you ask? Well, it’s rather simple.

  • Moving boxes. Cardboard boxes are key when relocating. They are probably singlehandedly the most important part of everyone’s move. However, finding good sturdy high-quality boxes can be hard to come by. That’s why we recommend that you either ask your friends who’ve relocated recently whether they have spare moving boxes to provide you with. Or, better yet you can go to your local supermarket and ask if they have moving boxes laying around that you could use. You’d be surprised at how many moving boxes these supermarkets have, and that serve no other purpose other than to be on a shelf.
  • Bubble wrap. After moving boxes, bubble wrap is the most important part of your move. If you want to save your belongings that is. You’d be amazed at the number of damages prevented to belongings just by the fact that people used bubble wrap. This really is a vital piece of equipment for every move. That’s why it’s also really hard to come by. We recommend checking out websites such as Freecycle, Craigslist, and social media.
  • Packing paper. Finally, another great piece of equipment you should have if you want to relocate is packing paper. You can either buy 500 sheets of packing paper for around 25$ or… You can save that money and just use old newspapers. It serves the same purpose and it’s more eco-friendly.

Move during the offseason.

Another great way to skimp on cost when moving to Florida is to move during the offseason. We recommend hiring movers from Mid-September through April. On top of that, we suggest that you book the movers on a workday and during the mornings. Moving during summer, weekends, and late in the day can all build up quite a hefty cost.

If you cannot move during the months we mentioned, and you really have to move only during peak season, we recommend that you stay clear of weekends, and holidays. Moving during these periods rake up the cost of your move quite a bit. That is if you are moving with a moving company.

Cut down on costs when moving to Florida by moving by yourself.

Another great way for a budget-friendly move is not to have your relocation be dependant on moving dates and other movers. That’s why some people decide to move by themselves. If you are one of those people we recommend that you avoid moving rush hour to cut down on the costs of fuel and road rage. We found that moving during the early mornings is best.

However, do keep in mind that if you are moving from Delray Beach to NYC, or anywhere for longer distances that you are going to need to ask for help. So, don’t be afraid to give your friends and family members a call. We are sure they’ll be more than willing to help you relocate.

However, do keep in mind that if you decide not to opt for hiring a moving company that you can expect to have to buy all packing supplies, rent a moving truck and do all other logistical things that you normally wouldn’t do if you just hired a moving company.
